TONIC TALKS - COLLECTIVINO

Martin and Toby set out to make selecting wines that suited their social conscience and their palates. Here is the story of the birth of Collectivino.

Are you a lover of wine who feels like it's pot luck as to whether you choose an outstanding, average, or outright disappointing wine from the shop shelf or wine list? Martin and Toby did.

Martin and Toby set out to make selecting wines that suited their social conscience and their palates. Their mission was to make accessing great sustainable wines mainstream. The result was the birth of their new online shop, Collectivino.

They specialise in finding and curating ethical wines that taste great. Wines that are produced and distributed responsibly and at an accessible price, Collectivino is trying to change how we buy wine. At their core is a desire to do right by the environment and the producers.

Tonic is looking forward to sharing more about how Collectivno sources its wines and producers and hearing more of their stories soon. They tell us that all of the vineyards they work with use sustainable farming practices, and they also ensure the bottles delivered have a net-zero carbon impact throughout the supply chain.

It seems like we have stumbled across a way to may our wine consumption guilt-free! Better for you and the planet at the same time.

Like us, you may have heard the rumours about potential alcohol shortages at Christmas time in the UK. We at Tonic prefer solutions to problems, so we asked Martin Stead, Co-Founder, at Collectivino for his take on the issue.

"At Collectivino, this year, we have witnessed a significant strain on the supply chain of quality wines for shipments coming into the UK from around the world. This strain seems to be driven by several factors, including new post-Brexit customs processes, labour shortages, the knock-on impact of Covid-19 lock-downs, and shipping containers held up in Chinese ports. Some orders from France - just 20 miles away across the channel - are now taking more than six months to reach the UK. As such, many industry experts are anticipating significant shortages."

We are assured that the folks at Collectivino have been carefully refilling their stocks of quality sustainable wines from small-batch ethical suppliers in preparation for this. Still, they urge all of their customers to stock up now to avoid disappointment this Christmas. Martin highlighted that they are also offering their corporate and retail customers the ability to order their Christmas Gifts now to reserve their stock. Collectivino will store it for free until shipment in December. Customers can see the current stock levels on their website.
